RETINITIS- THE EYE DISEASE
– Retinitis is also known as Retinitis pigmentosa .
– These are group of inherited diseases
– It damages the light sensitive rods and cones in the retina.
– Rods : provide side and night vision , are affected more than cones
– Cones : provide colour and clear central vision.
– Retinitis pigmentosa patients mainly suffers from night blindness and Peripheral vision loss that can leads to the central vision loss.

– Autosomal recessive disorder
* Signs and symptoms
– Starts with rod Degeneration
– Increase difficulty in night vision and peripery vision.
– Slowly progression can leads to tunnel vision.
– Night Blindness .

– Acute test
– Colour testing
– Donut shaped visual field loss
– Dark adaptation test
* Types of Retinitis
1) Retinitis pigmentosa
2) CMV retinitis
* Management
✓ Vitamin A therapy
✓ Vitamin E therapy
✓ Omega – 3 – rich diet : salmon , tuna , sardines.
✓ Wear sunglasses to protect eye from the UVR .
