ABDOMINAL MUSCLE
INTRODUCTION TO ABDOMINAL MUSCLE
1) EXTERNAL OBLIQUE MUSCLE
Origin : Lower ribs .
Action : Trunk Flexion and lateral bend.
Nerve supply : Intercostal nerve.
2) INTERNAL OBLIQUE MUSCLE
Origin : Thoracolumbar fascia.
Insertion : Lower 3 or 4 ribs, pubic crest and linea alba.
Action : flexion and lateral bend of trunk.
Nerve supply : Intercostal nerve.
3) TRANSVERSE ABDOMINIS
Origin : Lower six ribs , Thoracolumbar fascia.
Insertion : Linea alba and pubic crest.
Action : flexes and laterally bend the trunk.
Nerve supply : Intercostal nerve.
4) RECTUS ABDOMINIS
Origin : FROM Pubis and pubic symphysis
Insertion : Xiphoid process of sternum and costal cartilage 5-7.
Action : Flexion of trunk.
Nerve supply : Intercostal nerve.
5) PYRAMIDALIS
Origin : FROM Pubis , anterior to the rectus abdominus.
Insertion : Linea Alba.
Action : Draws the Linea Alba inferiorly.
Nerve supply : Subcostal nerve.
6) QUADRATUS LUMBORUM
Origin : Iliac crest ( posterior part ), and ileolumbar ligament.
Insertion : Transverse process of lumbar vertebrae 1-4.
Action : Flexion of 12 th rib , laterally bend the trunk.
7) PSOAS MAJOR
Origin : Bodies and transverse process of lumbar vertebrae .
Insertion : lesser trochanter of femur.
Action : Thigh flexion.
Nerve supply : Ventral primary Rami of spinal nerve.
8) PSOAS MINOR
Origin : Bodies of T12 and L1 vertebrae.
Insertion : ileopubic eminence.
Action : Flexion and lateral bend the lumbar vertebral column.
Nerve supply : Ventral primary Rami of spinal nerve.
