PELVIC MUSCLE

THE PELVIC FLOOR MUSCLES ARE:-

1) CREMASTOR 

 
Origin : From inguinal ligament.
 
Insertion : Around spermatic cord and the testis .
 
Action : Elevation of testis.
Nerve supply : Genitofemoral nerve.

2) DARTOS 

Origin : Penis and the subcutaneous connective tissue of scrotum.
Insertion : Skin of scrotum and penis.
Action : Elevation of the testis.
 
Nerve supply : Sympathetic nerve fibers.

3) EXTERNAL ANAL SPHINCTER

Origin : Perineal body .
 
Insertion : ON  Encircles anal canal , superficial fibers attach to coccyx.
 
Action : Constricts anal canal .
 
Nerve supply : Parasympathetic fibers from S4.

4) BULBOSPONGIOSUS IN FEMALE

Origin : From Perineal body .
Insertion : Perineal membrane .
 
Action: Vestibular bulb compression.
Nerve supply : Deep branch of peroneal nerve.

5) BULBOSPONGIOSUS IN MALE 

Origin : Central tendinous point.
 
Insertion : perineal membrane.
Action : Bulb of penis compression.
 
Nerve supply : Deep branch of peroneal nerve.

6) COCCYGEHS

Origin. : Ischial spine.
Insertion : Side of coccyx and lower sacrum.
Action : Elevation of pelvic floor.
Nerve supply : Ventral rami of spinal cord.


7) DEEP TRANSVERSE PECTINEUS 

Origin : Medial surface of Ischial ramus.
Insertion : perineal body / central tendinous point.
 
Action : Flexion and stabilize perineal body.
 
Nerve supply : perineal nerve.

8) DETRUSOR OF BLADDER 

Origin : smooth muscles in wall of urinary bladder.
Insertion :ON  Fascicles are arranged roughly in 3 layers.
Action : Compression of the urinary bladder
Nerve supply : splanchnic nerve.

9) ILIOCOCCYGEUS

Origin : FROM Arcus tendineus levator ani and the Ischial spine.
Insertion : Anococcygeal raphe and the coccyx.
Action : Elevation of pelvic floor.
Nerve supply : ventral primary Rami of spinal nerve.

10) ISCHIOCAVERNOSUS

Origin :FROM  Medial surface of the Ischial tuberosity .
Insertion : corpus cavernosum.
 
Action : compression of corpus cavernosum.
 
Nerve supply : perineal nerve.

11) LEVATOR ANI 

Origin : Posterior surface of body of pubis.
Insertion : Anococcygeal raphe and coccyx.
Action : Elevation of pelvic floor.
Nerve supply : Spinal nerve ( S3 – S4 ).

12) LEVATOR PROSTATEA

Origin : posterior aspect of the pubis.
Insertion : fascia of prostate.
Action : Elevation of prostate.
Nerve supply : Spinal nerve ( S3- S4 ).

13 ) PUBLCOCCYGEUS

 
Origin : Posterior aspect of superior pubic Ramis.
Insertion : Coccyx
Action : Elevation of pelvic floor.
 
Nerve supply : Spinal nerve ( S3- S4 ).


14) PUBORECTALIS

Origin : Posterior aspect of body of pubis.
 
Insertion : Posterior to the rectum.
Action : Support abdominal and pelvic organs and provide stability .
 
Nerve supply : Spinal nerve ( S3 – S4 ) .


15) PUBOVAGINALIS

Origin : Posterior aspect of body of pubis.
Insertion : Fascia of vagina and perineal body .
 
Action : Draws the vagina forward and superiorly.
Nerve supply : Spinal nerve ( S3- S4) .

16) SPHINCTER URETHRAE IN MALE

Origin : Encircle the urethra.
Insertion : Encircles urethra.
Action : Compression of urethra.
Nerve supply : Perineal nerve.


17) SPHINCTER URETHRAE IN FEMALES

Origin : Encircles urethra.
Insertion : Encircles urethra and vagina.
Action : Compression of  urethra and vagina.
Nerve supply : Perineal nerve.


18) SUPERFICIAL TRANSVERSE PERINEUS

Origin : medial surface of the Ischial ramus.
Insertion : contralateral muscle and perineal body.
Action : Flexion and stabilizes perineal body / central tendinous point.
